Company History
Vista Oil & Gas, S.A.B. de C.V. was incorporated in Mexico City on 22 March 2017 and closed its Mexican initial public offering in August 2017 as an acquisition vehicle led by former YPF chief executive Miguel Galuccio.
On 4 April 2018 Vista consummated the acquisition of assets from Pampa Energia and Pluspetrol Resources, bringing it the Entre Lomas, Bajada del Palo and 25 de Mayo-Medanito concessions in the Neuquina basin and its foothold in Vaca Muerta.
Vista made an initial public offering on the New York Stock Exchange on 25 July 2019 and its ADSs began trading under the symbol VIST the following day; each ADS represents one series A share, so per-share and per-ADS figures are the same number.
The company changed its name from Vista Oil & Gas, S.A.B. de C.V. to Vista Energy, S.A.B. de C.V., reflecting a portfolio by then dominated by shale oil rather than the conventional assets it started with.
Under a sale and purchase agreement signed on 15 April 2025 Vista bought 100% of Petronas E&P Argentina, now Vista Energy LACh, and with it a 50% working interest in the La Amarga Chica block operated by YPF. Results consolidate it from 1 April 2025.
Vista took over Equinor's Argentine position, adding a 25.1% non-operated working interest in Bandurria Sur and 35% in Bajo del Toro, consolidated from 1 May 2026. The board approved a capital increase and the issuance of 6,223,220 series A shares on 7 May 2026 in connection with the deal.
Q2 2026 revenue of $1,234.9 million and net profit of $333.0 million, on production of 156,061 boe/d and a realised crude price of $89.4 per barrel. Free cash flow before acquisition payments turned positive again after five consecutive quarters of outspend.
