Nasdaq closes its $2.75 billion cash purchase of Verafin, announced in November 2020 and financed largely with debt, moving it into fraud and anti-money-laundering software for banks.

2023
Adenza doubles the software half

The $10.5 billion acquisition of Adenza from Thoma Bravo - $5.75 billion in cash and 85.6 million Nasdaq shares - closes on 1 November 2023, adding AxiomSL regulatory reporting and Calypso capital-markets software and lifting quarterly net revenue by roughly a fifth in a single quarter.

Adena Friedman
Chair & CEO
Adena Friedman
Chief executive since January 2017 and board chair since January 2023, and a Nasdaq veteran before that - head of data products, head of corporate strategy and CFO - with a spell as CFO of The Carlyle Group in between. She has spent her tenure converting an exchange into a software vendor, of which the $10.5 billion Adenza purchase is the largest single step.

Tal Cohen
President
One of two presidents appointed in April 2023, running Market Services and Financial Technology - the trading franchise the company was built on, plus the marketplace technology, surveillance, risk and regulatory-reporting software sold to everyone else.
Nelson Griggs
President
The other president appointed in April 2023, running Capital Access Platforms - data and listings, index licensing, and workflow and insights. The listings franchise that took SpaceX public in the June 2026 quarter sits under him.
Sarah Youngwood
EVP & Chief Financial Officer
Chief financial officer since 2023, previously at UBS, and the voice on the quarterly release. She presents the business on net revenue and annualised recurring revenue rather than gross revenue, which is the distinction that makes this company's numbers legible.
