What we learned
- The 4,514 kboe/d denominator this piece divides Guyana's barrels into was itself depressed. CEO Darren Woods said the quarter carried a temporary loss of about 10% of upstream production from Middle East disruption; excluding that region, upstream volumes were the highest in more than two decades.
- Exxon introduced a new non-GAAP measure this quarter, Adjusted Earnings, and it barely moved the number. A $2,638 million charge for identified items nearly offset a $2,483 million favorable mark-to-market timing swing, landing adjusted earnings at $14,680 million against $14,525 million GAAP.
- US natural gas realized $0.52 per thousand cubic feet against a $2.90 Henry Hub benchmark. The release does not explain the gap, which is unusually wide even by the volatile standards of Exxon's own realization table, where every other line tracks its marker closely.
- Exxon says it avoided about $750 million of annual disruption cost by rerouting around the Middle East outage. CEO Darren Woods credited advanced modeling, fleet reallocation and alternate supply sources — on top of $16.3 billion of cumulative structural cost savings since 2019.
