DoorDash, Inc. · Q2 2026 call
What the CEO argued
Tony Xu's argument was that DoorDash's edge is operational, not technological — that the hard part of every new thing it is building sits in the physical world rather than in the model or the robot. He said a Dot vehicle on its own will never scale autonomous delivery because loading, merchant prep times, inventory levels and awkward drop-offs are what actually have to be solved, and that Phoenix now proves DoorDash can solve them at real scale. He applied the same test to AI, refusing spend that is not rooted in a better customer experience, and answered the agentic-commerce question with a flat no on volume while framing DoorDash as the partner assistants will need once they turn to physical goods. On the international business he pushed back on the quality-of-growth doubt with specifics: the top ten markets outside the US carry the bulk of it, and DoorDash leads or is a strong number two in all of them.
