Baidu, Inc. · Q2 2026 call
What the CEO argued
Robin Li's argument was that Baidu is now an AI company that still owns a shrinking internet company, and that the parts worth watching are the ones the income statement does not show. He opened on the crossover holding — AI-powered business at half of Baidu General Business — and spent most of his remarks below it: Kunlunxin's third generation of chips shipping with an M100 out and an M300 coming, GPU Cloud revenue up 283% and accelerating off last quarter's 184%, Qianfan token revenue up more than ninefold. On the model itself he was unusually blunt, conceding trials and errors and framing new hires as the way to bring ERNIE "back into the top tier" — an admission it had left. On Apollo Go he pre-empted the ride number rather than led with it: about 1 million fully driverless rides in the quarter, held back by operational pauses in some Chinese cities for regulatory reasons, against 23 million cumulative rides and a safety record he put at one airbag deployment per 14.4 million kilometres. His close was the economics: breakeven already reached in a low-fare Chinese market, and a bigger, higher-priced opportunity outside China and the US.
