What we learned
- Half the beat was timing, and the CFO said so unprompted. Mastantuono attributed roughly half of the Q2 beat to US federal on-premise revenue pulled forward from Q3 . The 21.5% constant-currency cRPO growth against a 19.5% guide is a smaller beat than it looks.
- The informed expectation was already above the official guide. Morgan Stanley had published a 20.5–21.5% expected print days earlier, with organic growth ex-acquisitions closer to 17%. ServiceNow landed at the top of what the buy side was watching, not past it.
- The difference from April was margin guidance, not revenue. April paired a clean revenue beat with two margin cuts in one call and the stock crashed; this quarter both margin lines held and it rallied. Same top-line shape, opposite reaction.
- AI ACV crossed $1 billion a quarter and a half early, with net new AI ACV accelerating more than 40% sequentially , and the security and risk business is now the fastest-growing among the top ten enterprise cybersecurity companies — early validation for Armis and Veza.
- The free-cash-flow collapse from 44% to 16% is seasonal and the guide proves it. Collections are front-loaded every year, and full-year free-cash-flow margin guidance of 35% was held, not cut .
