TSMC's $265 Billion Is 4.3 Years of Capex at This Year's Rate, and Has No Schedule

TSMC's total planned US investment reached $265 billion in July. That is 4.3 years of its 2026 capital budget, and C.C. Wei will not put a schedule on it.

Total planned US investment by TSMC has been $265 billion since 16 July, when a second $100 billion increment landed and Commerce quoted C.C. Wei: "bringing the total planned investment to $265 billion." The path ran $65bn, +$100bn in March 2025 to $165bn, +$100bn to $265bn and 12 US facilities. Almost nobody has sized it.

On the same day's call TSMC raised its 2026 capital budget to $60-64 billion from $52-56 billion, so $265bn ÷ $62bn = 4.3 years of total-company capex in one country. That needs the money spent at this year's rate, and it will not be: pressed twice for a schedule, Wei said "if you ask me to give you a firm schedule, no, we don't have it today, but we do have a plan." Straight-lined over a 10-to-13-year build, $265bn ÷ 10 = $26.5bn a year, to $20.4bn, a third to two-fifths of one year's budget, from a base still mostly Taiwan.

Reuters reported on 30 September that TSMC is evaluating a Texas investment: two sources, no final decision, no comment. A build schedule, or the cash sunk in Arizona, would turn the envelope into a rate. Neither exists.

An additional $100 billion, total $265 billion from TSMC — 16 July 2026

The $265 billion, the increment, the 12 facilities and the Wei quotation are the Commerce Department's release of 16 July 2026; the capital budget and the schedule refusal are TSMC's call the same day. Texas is Reuters, 30 September. The straight line is ours, not a TSMC schedule, and nothing here moves a driver we publish.
